Showreels can be produced in-house at TV Pro Global from as little as $950.

'Showreels are one of your most important tools for promotional purposes in the TV Presenting Industry. They are designed with the sole purpose of retrieving feedback or callbacks from producers, casting Directors and agents.

If you have already worked in the Industry and are looking to acquire further contractual work either through an agent or on your own, then it would be advisable to use grabs from your past appearances and edit them together in a creative manner.(As long as they are fairly recent appearances.)

If you have not worked in the industry yet, or do not have suitable footage to make up a showreel, take the following pointers into consideration:

• It needs to be short. Any reel that goes on for too long will not necessarily be watched in its totality. If however you are producing one from scratch (something that TV Pro Casting also specialises in you will need to include a few different styles to display your versatility. For example: a thirty second lifestyle piece and then an interview or a documentary piece (see talent draft for different categories).

• You are able to, due to technology, choose between a vVHS showreel or a CD Rom for promotional purposes. …or both!

• A showreel is to showcase you and you only. Try not to 'mimic' another personality. You will always need to be very much yourself.

• Spontaneity is very magnetic. A showreel that is too stiff and over rehearsed, does not necessarily 'reach' your viewer.

• Make sure that the sound is good. If you are going to attempt to make your own on a domestic digital….that may suit some people but try to hire decent sound as sometimes the mike attached to the camera may not pick up some of the warmer deeper tones that a boom mike or lapel mike will pick up.

• Production is also important. Nobody says you will have to produce a broadcast quality Showreel, however you will be far more appealing to the producer or agent if your showreel shows you in the best light.

• A showreel can cost as little as $950 to as much as $2000. This should include the recording, production and edit of material for a 3 to 4 minute reel.
